Choice MedWaste provides medical waste treatment as part of our comprehensive regulated waste management services. With treatment capabilities handled in-house, we can provide greater control over the process from collection and transportation through treatment and final disposal.

Our team works with healthcare facilities and other regulated waste generators to ensure medical waste is properly collected, documented, transported, and treated according to the requirements of each waste stream.

By bringing medical waste treatment in-house, we're continuing our commitment to providing responsive, reliable, and locally managed waste solutions for the facilities we serve.

How Medical Waste Treatment Works

Medical waste cannot simply be collected and discarded. Different waste streams require appropriate handling and treatment before they can reach their final disposal destination.

For the most common regulated medical waste streams, autoclave treatment is the preferred industry treatment method. Autoclave treatment uses steam heat to treat infectious materials and render them non-infectious. Choice MedWaste's existing site identifies red bag waste, sharps, and other biohazardous materials as examples of waste commonly treated through autoclaving.

Other waste streams like trace chemotherapy, non hazardous pharmacuetical or pathological waste requires direct incineration at a permitted facility. These waste streams are segregated at the point of generation to ensure compliance.

Collection and Transportation

We coordinate scheduled or on-call pickups based on your facility's waste volume and operational needs. Our team helps ensure waste is properly packaged, documented, and transported for treatment.

2

Proper Waste Segregation

Different medical waste streams have different treatment requirements. Proper segregation at the point of generation helps ensure each type of waste follows the appropriate treatment and disposal process. This segregation is required in certain states like Pennsylvania but is a best practice in our industry as facilities can save thousands of dollars segregating waste in order to not over classify waste streams.

Our team can help facilities identify and separate their waste streams while providing appropriate containers and guidance to make it simple, cost efficient and compliant at the point of generation..

Medical Waste Treatment

Eligible regulated medical waste is treated using the appropriate treatment process to reduce the risks associated with potentially infectious materials.

Autoclaving uses a controlled combination of steam, heat, and pressure to treat common infectious medical waste. One of the best advantages of autoclave material is there is no need to pre-shred or manipulate the waste prior to treatment. This reduces any risk of bio-aerosols to the warehouse team and local communities. This technology is the same technology used around patients in dental offices or laboratories but on a larger commercial scale. Once successfully treated, the material is considered non-infectious and can proceed to its appropriate final disposal destination.

4

Final Disposal

Treatment is only one part of the waste management process. Once waste has been properly treated, we coordinate its final disposal according to local and state regulations.

Choice MedWaste's existing process sends all treated medical waste to waste to energy incineration so our clients can be sustainable through recycling their material into power for local communities. This also helps our clients with ESG scores while completely destroying any regulated medical waste generated from our clients.

Why In-House Treatment Matters

Bringing medical waste treatment in-house gives Choice MedWaste greater control over the waste management process rather than relying entirely on outside treatment providers. The team at Choice MedWaste can add or improve operations for specific clients, jobs or changes in our industry quickly to be the one stop solution our clients are accustomed to.

Greater Process Control
