Bruce attended The University of Delaware for his Bachelor and MBA degrees. His first job out of college was with Johnson and Johnson in New Jersey and then he returned to Delaware to work for Harvey and Harvey, the areas largest family owned waste hauling company. There he honed his skills in operations and personnel management. He then partnered with Alan Burkhard, and started Independent Disposal Services. This company grew to service over 65,000 customers a week in 12 years. Bruce sold the company in 2010 and continued his entrepreneurial pursuits which include being a partner in Klondike Kates restaurant in Newark, DE since 2005, partnering with Jack Quinn to build Blue Hen Car Wash in Newark, DE in 2013, owning two real estate companies that own and manage commercial and residential properties in Newark and Wilmington, DE and the continued operation of two DSWA transfer stations for solid waste and recycling by Independent Transfer Operators since 2006.
After over two years of research into the medical waste hauling business Bruce has partnered with his son, Matt, to start Choice Medwaste. During this two year period Bruce and Matt have traveled to Idaho, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina to meet with haulers and consultants presently in the business, to inspect and learn more about disposal facilities, and review with vendors the available product lines for the industry.
Bruce likes to spend his free time with his wife, Diane, and his two boys, Matt and Ryan, at the Delaware beaches, reading a good fiction mystery novel and enjoying a nice glass of wine.
Growing up around Delaware, Matt graduated from Archmere Academy in 2008 and The University of Delaware in 2012 with a B.S. in Finance and Operations Management and two minors, Entrepreneurial Studies and International Business. Matt participated in University of Delaware’s study abroad programs, studying in Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Australia. Throughout high school and college, Matt worked for his father’s solid waste company and also at a restaurant. After graduating, Matt gained a wealth of knowledge by working in the banking industry for almost 3 years. His goal has always been to be an Entrepreneur with the mindset of putting the customer first.
In his spare time, you can find Matt playing a variety of sports that include lacrosse and soccer. He enjoys spending weekends with his family down at the Delaware beaches, fishing and a variety of water sports. He also loves to travel and will try anything once.
Choice MedWaste is the second hauling company Bruce has started. It comes from the same locally driven, customer service model from which his solid waste company was built. Choice puts our customers first and strives to be the leader in educating our clients on the industry, regulations, and finding the most cost efficient way to manage and dispose of their waste.
When hiring Choice MedWaste, our clients will not be hiring another standard medical waste company. Choice wants to build a relationship with our clients to understand their exact needs and assist in resolving any particular challenges that revolve around medical waste. Whether it comes to questions about regulations, training in the office, or creating annual reports, Choice will be able to maintain a high level of service while delivering exactly what the client wants. In order to address any concerns of our customers and ensure the industry takes the right steps moving forward, Choice is an active member of the National Waste and Recycling Association and the Healthcare Waste Institute. This gives us a vast network of resources to assist you in any way possible.
Choice MedWaste is currently servicing all of Delaware, the Eastern shore of Maryland and all neighboring counties in Pennsylvania.
